   ZUCCHINI QUEENIE...
Not much to say about this thumbnail. The idea basically stayed the same throughout the process...a change to the posture to better fill the space, but little else.

I ditched the grocery list that's in the thumbnail because I thought if she's the Zucchini Queenie, then there needs to be more zucchinis. I took the opportunity to use the zuke to help the ear in filling the background space.
I didn't do much to get this stage but tighten up the sketch, though I didn't like how the ear was bent into the corner. But it fit the letter, so...
Water-based dyes are applied as a base coat for the colors to come and to cover the white of the paper where I don't want it. I'll be using colored pencils in the next step, and I don't want to see those little flecks of white paper showing through where they shouldn't.

The colored pencil stage, where most of the work is done. I realized that the bunny no longer looked like a bunny. I knew what was needed, but the surface of the paper had taken all the colored pencil it was going to. I'd have to do all my fixing with acrylics.
Although I used more acrylic paint than usual, I didn't do much to the zucchinis. The texture of the paper allowed the lighter green of the green dyes to come through during the colored pencil stage creating those little flecks you see in real zucchinis.
