ZANY ZOO KAZOOER... |
 |
This "thumbnail," instead
of being the size of my thumb, is full size. I knew what I wanted
to fit into the Z shape, so I used the Z template that I use for the
final design.
At this point, I had no idea of what animal would be used, but the
sketch looked kind of wildcat-ish.

While thinking of a caption, "zoo" and "kazoo" came to mind. This is the sketch of that concept.

The final drawing...hardly any difference between this and the one
in my sketchbook. |

The watercolor underpainting for the colored pencil step to follow.

In this step, I ditched the eyeglass sidepiece and strap so you can
see the eye of the panda. Because the black eyepatch marking of the
panda in the glasses opening gives the illusion of a cartoon "eye,"
(which I didn't want), showing the panda's real eye is important.
Now, the "cartoon eye" seems to be part of the zany costume,
and the panda retains some semblance of realism. |
