   YUM YUM!...
The thumbnail sketch (i.e., the roughest of rough sketches) that records the idea in my sketchbook.

The first full size sketch from my sketchbook. Both this sketch and the pencil drawing below show how I use color to work out the drawing. For instance, it often starts with a Non-Photo Blue pencil (because it's light), then something like scarlet, with the final done with a graphite pencil. Saves a lot of time since each new layer is easily seen on top of the one(s) below.
The final drawing showing the blue ink lines that came from the rollerball pen used to transfer the image to the final painting surface (using carbon paper).
The watercolor step where the base color is applied.

Another example of why I need to go in with acrylic paint for the whites I can no longer get by the end of this, the colored pencil stage. The paper can only take so much pencil...then the colors just slide over each other without sticking. I use a workable fixative spray, but it's not nearly as good as the paper. That's why there's one more step...
The last step, acrylic paint applied, whites restored.
