UNEXPECTED... |

The
U is another of those letters that I have trouble illustrating.
I find it dificult to come up with a design that has that shape.
This is another one of those times where the thumbnail is just a
jotting down of the idea with more descriptive writing than drawing.

| Sketchbook
drawing turned into drawings (plural). I just wasn't sure how to position
this huge, bony animal into that very restrictive shape. I wanted
to use a long-handled brush as the scrubbing device, but I couldn't
get the giraffe to grip the handle without giving him hands, so he's
using a washcloth. |

The final drawing. You'll notice I added a towel. I did this for reasons
related to humor: First, if a female is wearing a shower cap, it isn't
at
all funny...that's
who commonly wears a shower cap after all. Plus, it's only funny if
a male is caught in this kind of embarassing situation. Unfair as
it may be to half of us, that's the way it is. So, I added a "His" towel, and now there's no doubt. Wait a minute! Maybe she's
using his towel... |
| There's
an awful lot of whites and lights in this illustration, so I used
less watercolor dyes than usual. |

The
colored pencil stage where most of the detail work is done...and overdone.
I was planning on a yellow shower cap right up to the final stage. |
| I
made the cap green to balance the green of the shower curtain. I refined
everything with acrylics, and, after an eon of putzing, I called it
complete. |
