   MOCCASIN MISSIN'...

Since this design started as the M in BEDTIME, the characters are teddy bears.

The trouble was, the shape of the M of my letters now is different than BEDTIME's. I couldn't get the cub to the bottom of the letter without it looking like the parents were dropping him...certainly didn't look like the cub was having any fun. I quit trying to fill the empty space with the cub and added a blankie to do it.

I had a terrible time trying to devise a caption that would give the idea that the cub was being carried off to bed, or at least that bedtime was near. The caption I'm using actually drove the design. There probably wouldn't even be a mocassin if I'd come up with a different caption.

The main changes were in making the bears more realistic (I didn't want them to be too cartoony). In the thumbnail at left you can probably see the red of the rollerball pen I use to transfer the drawing to the "good" paper. I use a "carbon" paper, made the universal way: Graphite applied to one side of a piece of tracing paper.
The usual first step once the drawing has been transferred to the final surface: Watercolor to hide the white of the paper.

By the time I'm done with this, the colored pencil stage, I will have completed probably 99% of the work...
...only thing needed is a final punch up with acrylics.
