   KAYAKS KEELING OVER...
Exhibit A for why sketchbooks aren't always open for public viewing. This thumbnail is just a visual jotting down of an idea so it isn't forgotten. Critical comments of any kind not permitted.

I got the kayaks down, but I didn't know what kind of animal to put in the picture.
I finally decided on a "K" animal...the koala. The koala started out smaller than the final version, but he kinda grew as I worked to draw him.

I had to take some liberties with the koala's posture. I didn't see any photos of koalas in this position, but I needed it to appear that the koala was propping up the kaskading kayaks. Because they're always in a tree, their hind feet are forward...but, in that position, the koala doesn't look like he's working at it or struggling with his predicament.
The watercolor dye stage.

The colored pencils do most of the work in the development of the final art.
This time, I spent a lot more time with the acrylics than usual...probably more than I needed. I putz too much. There should be some kind of 12-step program for putzers ("Hello, my name is Fred McEntire, and I'm a putzer. It's been 3 days since I fiddled with something already done...").
