GLADTAMEETCHA!... |

The idea for the cow jumping over the moon came from the Exclamation Point. This rough thumbnail sketch was done
just to be a reminder of an idea. The idea expressed by this scribble didn't really change, although the orientation of the cow
did. You'll see this change when you click on the Sketch thumbnail (the next step).

| The sketch was originally done with the cow as an astronaut, in spacesuit and everything. It really didn't feel like the illustrations in the other letters, so I got rid of it. Looking at the rear end of a cow without a spacesuit was not my first choice, so I had the cow coming toward the viewer. |

This is the line drawing I used to transfer the design to the final
surface for painting. The final surface is a piece of single ply,
acid-free bristol board with a vellum finish. All letters are small--each
original image is about four and a quarter inches high. |

dyes (Dr. Martins) to cover up the white of the paper. I spent less time here than normal this time, but since I was using far fewer colors than normal, I didn't think I needed anything more. |

The
main step: Colored pencil. I used a lot of
colored pencil layers in this step. Once the pencil
applications stopped sticking...they just slid over the top layer...I knew there would be more acrylic
paint than normal applied in the next stage. |
|
Most
of the time, the letter is very close to being finished in the colored
pencil step, but
I almost always use a little bit of acrylics to help out the highlights and the darks. This time I used a brush about
ten times longer than I did with a pencil. Finally, I had to quit. I was really glad to meetcha...to be done with this one.
